Strike Out Violence Day
The 10th annual Strike Out Violence Day presented by the San Francisco Giants, Giants Community Fund, San Francisco Sheriff's Department and the Family Violence Prevention Fund took place on Sunday, Sept. 9. Survivors of violence, violence prevention grant recipients and Junior Giants Anti-Violence Art/Poem/Prose contest winners were recognized on the field during the pregame ceremony. A magnet featuring anti-violence artwork from the Junior Giants artwork contestants were handed out to the first 15,000 fans through the gates.

The following organizations are 2007 Violence Prevention grant recipients:
• Brothers Against Guns
• Child Abuse Prevention Council of San Joaquin County
• Childhood Matters, Inc.
• Friends of the Children SF
• Friends for Youth, Inc.
• Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence
• St. Vincent de Paul Society

The day also included the sixth annual Jerseys Off Our Giants raffle to benefit La Casa de las Madres. Over 100 volunteers, including several Giants wives, sold $1 raffle tickets throughout the ballpark for the chance to win an autographed Giants jersey. The jerseys were presented to the winners by Giants pitchers Kevin Correia and Tyler Walker during a postgame ceremony in the Giants dugout. Over $18,000 was raised from the raffle and all proceeds benefited La Casa de las Madres, which offers support services for battered women and their children.

Junior Giants Strike Out Violence Programs
The Giants Community Fund’s Violence Prevention Committee, which is comprised of board members and staff, created two anti-violence programs in 2007 targeted at ending the cycle of violence that impacts Junior Giants, their families and their communities.

Speaker's Event
On Saturday, Aug. 11, over 200 Junior Giants kids, families and coaches joined comedian and youth advocate Michael Pritchard and former Giants pitcher Robb Nen at AT&T Park for the Junior Giants Violence Prevention Speaker's Event. Nen welcomed the crowd and answered questions about his playing days and family life, while Pritchard addressed the group about concerns relating to bullying at a young age, focusing on message such as "The bad you do will be sad for you; the good you do will come back to you."

Art/Poem/Prose Contest
Over 70 Junior Giants submitted artwork or a poem/essay for the first Junior Giants Violence Prevention Art/Poem/Prose Contest. The artwork and written pieces contained messages from Junior Giants about how to stop the violence in their community or what a peaceful city would look like. Judges included Giants player Kevin Frandsen and Giants Community Fund board members and staff. Three winners were chosen from the two age categories and they were recognized during a pregame ceremony at Strike Out Violence Day on Sunday, Sept. 9.
