Health Programs

The Giants Community Fund has partnered with many organizations to raise awareness and education about important health-related causes. The Fund also collaborates with the San Francisco Giants Community Relations department to identify important community initiatives at the ballpark. The main focus areas of the Giants Community Fund health program are:

• To promote nutrition and exercise for Junior Giants youth and families in Junior Giants communities.
• To support health education and healthy living for youth primarily in underserved communities.

Highlights of 2007 programs:

Until There's A Cure Day
In 1994, the Giants teamed up with the Until There’s A Cure Foundation to become the first-ever professional sports team to host an AIDS benefit game. Since then, the Giants have repeated the effort each year, generating nearly $1.3 million for Bay Area HIV/AIDS education and care/service organizations and international AIDS research.

On Friday, July 27, the Giants Community Fund presented a $40,000 check to the Until There’s A Cure Foundation at the 14th annual Until There’s A Cure Night at AT&T Park. This money will be directed to the following non-profit organizations that are committed to providing HIV/AIDS services to the community: Larkin Street Youth Services, Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center, Marin AIDS Project, Sunburst Projects, Meals of Marin and New Conservatory Theatre.

CHW and Del Monte Health Fairs
Through a partnership with Catholic Healthcare West and Del Monte, the Giants Community Fund is committed to funding various health fairs in the Bay Area. These health fairs address the needs of the communities being served and provide screenings, nutrition tips and awareness materials to the attendees.

The following neighborhoods will be served this year:

• Bayview/Hunter's Point - Saturday, Sept. 15
• Daly City - Saturday, Oct. 27
• Western Addition - held on Saturday, June 16

Organ Donor Awareness Night
In conjunction with the California Transplant Donor Network, the Fund held the sixth annual Organ Donor Awareness Night on Tuesday, Aug. 28. The night was committed to raising awareness about the importance of organ donation. The first 5,000 fans at the gates received baseball cards with organ donation information from the California Transplant Donor Network. If you would like to learn more about donor registration, please visit the California Transplant Donor Network's website, www.ctdn.org.
